W3C Brings CSS and XML to Cellphones

The W3C announced a new working draft on Wednesday for DIAL (Device Independent Authoring Language). DIAL a proposed new markup language for displaying web content on different devices. The markup addresses structure, presentation and form interaction.

Although it will likely take a while to be adopted, this new proposal is very exciting and promising for all internet users and entrepreneurs alike. The newly proposed markup language may very well open the door for web developers to more easily make their websites and web applications more widely available across various devices, including cell phones, by allowing developers to create sites and content that works on a wide variety of screen sizes and devices with significantly less effort.

This could easily open the door for businesses to reach a wider market with their online web applications for a more reasonable cost due to the reduced effort for developers. For consumers, this indicates a coming boom in increased mobile web access and mobile abilities. The web will become even easier to use while “on the go” and more content and online applications will be more easily accessible to consumers.
